Hymn Ideas: Thanksgiving Hymns > ideas > home

Can you believe Thanksgiving is less than a month away?

It's a holiday usually glossed over in the contemporary worship world. In past years I'd usually tip my hat to it by doing the prerequisite "Give Thanks" chorus somewhere in the praise set. But that song sounds a bit dated in 2006. I've been bugging worship leader Tim Light to finish his "Thanksgiving Song" but I'm still waiting. By the way, he and I wrote two Christmas praise songs you might like - download free MP3s at the PraiseSongStore.com:

Anyway, back to Thanksgiving. With a contemporary hymn
arrangement you have more options than "Give Thanks."

For instance, try opening your praise set with an upbeat arrangement of "For the Beauty of the Earth" and follow it with the popular Tim Hughes song "Beautiful One."

You don't hear "For the Beauty of the Earth" very often, but it's a great Thanksgiving-themed hymn and one of my favorite HymnCharts arrangements. I created it to segue directly into "Beautiful One."

Another favorite blend of a hymn and praise song is my arrangement of "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" in E major flowing into "Let Everything That Has Breath."

Arranging music isn't rocket science (I'll give you some arranging tips in future issues of Hymn Ideas,) but if you don't have the time, consider a HymnCharts subscription this holiday season to save you time and money.
