Worship Wars >home
If you're integrating contemporary worship
music into your services, you've no doubt
experienced the "worship wars"
- traditionalists in your congregation who
don't like praise choruses.
Some people will never be happy, but you
may calm a few down by blending hymns with
your praise songs. Of course, as worship
leaders, our job isn't about pleasing people,
but pleasing the Lord. However, integrating
a re-arranged hymn into your praise set says
we're building on the faith of our fathers,
while still using the contemporary expression
of the 21st century. Read what worship guru
Sally Morgenthaler says about using hymns with contemporary worship.
Heidi Weesies, a HymnCharts subscriber from
Westend Church in Grand Rapids, MI, recently wrote:

"Our church has two services: more traditional
and more contemporary, and typically the
"more traditionals" have contempt
for the "loud, raucous, repetitive"
choruses used in the other service.
"We're moving to one service for the
summertime, and last weekend we had our first
combined service. I used several HymnCharts.com
arrangements, along with a mix of contemporary
music with rave reviews. One in particular
was "My Savior's Love" - turns
out to be the old-timer's favorite, but the
arrangement you've created makes a beautiful
sound with updated chording that appealed
to our high schoolers too! I appreciate your
ministry so much!" |
